In Rust We Trust

Material research and prolonging product's life.

Concept Development | Material Research | Sustainable Assesment

This project was in collaboration with Sögreni Copenhaguen.

In Rust We Trust began as an exploration of metals and their oxidation reactions. Denmark's wet climate and road salt make rust on vehicles a common issue. Cars and motorcycles are required to have biennial rust check-ups, but what about other vehicles?

There are over one billion bicycles in the world, with 47,670 sold every day. An estimated 15 million bicycles are discarded annually, largely due to a lack of maintenance and robery.

This research focuses on bicycle users' journeys and maintenance practices. By addressing consumer needs, a solution was developed to remind owners to check and treat vital bicycle parts for rust. The result is a lock that not only prevents theft but also highlights the most important parts for regular maintenance. This sustainable solution helps reduce waste and extend the lifespan of bicycles promoting more conscious practices.
